Communicable disese
A communicable disease is one that can be passed directly or indirectly from one person to another.
An infectious agent, such as a virus or bacteria, is what causes it.
Modes of Transmission
Communicable diseases can be transmitted through:
- Direct transmission-this can be through either direct contact or droplet spread.
- Airborne transmission occurs through droplet nuclei-the small residue that results from evaporation of fluids from droplets emitted by an infected person.
- Indirect transmission occurs when the infectious agent is transported within contaminated inanimate objects called fomites.
- Vector transmission- occurs through a vector (a nonhuman carrier such as an animal or insect)
